10 reasons why we love LUX* Resorts and Hotels

We go on holiday to escape the routine… Stay at a conventional resort and before long you’ll know where everything is. That won’t happen at LUX* Resorts and Resorts. At LUX* every moment matters. The have created simple, fresh and sensory experiences to indulge you throughout your stay. We absolutely love the attention to detail and the lengths they go to surprise and delight their guests.  With generous touches and creative details around every corner here are ten reasons why we love LUX* Resorts and Hotels…

Al fresco film nights at Cinema Paradiso

Beanbags? Check. Fresh popcorn? Absolutely. Ice Cream? Of course. The al fresco boutique cinemas show cult classics, theme nights, family-friendly blockbusters and much more all under the stars and completely on the house! With state of the art rear projectors, wireless headphones, luxurious setting areas and exquisite snacks, Cinema Paradiso is a huge hit!

Message in a bottle

LUX* are all about keeping things fun and spontaneous! Every day is a treasure hunt with delightful surprises hidden around every corner. Spot a bottle buried in the sand with a message inside. No it’s not an ancient SOS from a stranded castaway… instead, you will find a gift: a candle-lit dinner for two by the water’s edge, a spa treatment, or a scuba diving lesson. Whatever the reward, it is on the house!

Phone Home

Not all ‘smart’ phones are mobile. Say goodbye to roaming charges and those nasty phone bill surprises whilst you are away. Instead, make the most of LUX*’s vintage red telephone boxes… step inside and call friends and family for free. There’s only one condition- you’re not allowed to call the office!

Make a wish

Close your eyes and make a wish. At every LUX* resort, you’ll find a Tree of Wishes sculpture. Upon check-in, you’ll be presented with a unique ribbon and tag with your initials on. Tie the ribbon around one of the enchanting branches and make your wish… We can’t promise that it will come true but once a year one lucky winner will win a free LUX* holiday!

The Sound of LUX* App

Bored with your music library? Solution: these downloadable playlists curated by LUX*’s professional music maestros ensure that every step of your stay- from basking on the beach to pre-dinner drinks, has a soundtrack to match your mood!

ICI

A holiday without ice cream is like an infinity pool without water. So LUX* have created their very own ice-cream brand called ‘ICI’. Boutique ice-cream stall are dotted around each resort serving these delicious homemade treats, including hand-waffled cones, glorious toppings and tailor-made flavours! Our favourite combo is Sicilian Pistachio Variegato and Madagascan Vanilla!

LUX* Me

The integrated philosophy of well-being with a step by step path to a healthier way of life includes outdoor exercise classes, personal trainers specialising in Pilates, yoga and meditation and a wellness programme created just for you! Your vitality-boosting regime will ensure you leave LUX* re-energised and fitter than when you arrived!

Café LUX*

Excellent coffee is a must not a luxury, that’s why you will find fresh-roasted barista-made coffee at the heart of all their resorts in Café LUX*. Perfecting the art of the perfect coffee, Café LUX* roast their fresh cocoa beans on-site so you can enjoy the most aromatic bean to cup coffee! They will even take you on a behind the scenes tour…

Panama Hat Station

Lightweight, brimmed straw headgear from Ecuador is an essential for any shade-seeker! Whether you prefer the traditional black-grosgrain ribbon or boldly hued band, browse the LUX* Panama Station and their range of hats at the pop-up stall!

Aperitivo

LUX* have introduced a new wandering Aperitivo Bar, designed to tantalise the taste buds before dinner with tasty tapas and signature cocktails created by their expert mixologist… Of course, this is no ordinary Aperitivo Bar, the renowned LUX* twist is that you won’t find this bar in the same place twice! One night it could be on the beach for some barefoot nibbles in the sand, another night it could be nestled away under some fairy lit palm trees…

Experience LUX* for yourself… with beautiful properties in the Maldives, Mauritius and Reunion Island which Indian Ocean Idyll will you choose?

Kanuhura Maldives: An All New USD 42 Million Gypset Style Resort

Kanuhura Maldives – thundi.com – Maldives Wedding & Honeymoon Destination Blog

Kanuhura Maldives - thundi.com - Maldives Wedding & Honeymoon Destination Blog  Kanuhura Maldives, owned and managed by Sun Resorts, has shared the wishes of its high profile, long-term guests with the world by re-imaging a property consisting of three islands in the northern quadrant of the Lhaviyani Atoll.
With as many as 15 annual visits, lovers and dreamers who first set foot on the soft sands of Kanuhura as couples or young families were the cornerstone for this evolution.
This nautical bohemian design concept over the unique three island experience is by former Gold Key Designer of the Year and Founder of London-based Muza Lab, Inge Moore, in cooperation with Hirsch Bedner Associates, that revitalises the identity of the resort by focusing on the idea of “Gypset”.

Gypset is a new way of life, according to New York-based journalist and author Julia Chaplin, who wrote about a generation of travellers who she defined as part Gypsy, driven by freedom and escapism, and part Jetset, a reflection of their success and appreciation of the finer things in life.

The USD 42 Million design overhaul of Kanuhura, combined with the buying of the Masleggihura island, was overseen by Sun Resorts CEO David Anderson, who appointed Robert Hauck, formerly of Raffles Hotels and Resorts and Asia’s top sports and lifestyle complex, Thanyapura Phuket as General Manager to lead the resort.
“We have a uniquely sheltered location over three islands and are blessed with a heritage of repeat guests over the past 20 years,” said Mr Hauck. “We have grown up together and are now enhancing this by developing experiences for guests where they can be free, unconventional, open, stay fit and totally relax.”

“We offer everything from total escapism and tranquility on Masleggihura island to a 300-metre sea swim to Jehunuhura island, a 2.25km round island run on Kanuhura and soon to be launched Project South which will be the first martial arts academy in the Maldives led by two-time world Muay Thai champion, Irshaad Sayed.”

Guests can experience a local culinary masterclass at A Mano. A Mano, which means “touched by the hand”, is an ethos that is celebrated throughout every aspect of the island’s kitchen. All produce is free range, seasonal and mainly from small growers and producers – a celebration of traditional home cooking found on the trade routes.

Kokaa Spa, named after the all-white local butterfly, features Marma therapy that focuses on releasing energy from 103 pressure points in your body. It was recently recognised as one of the “World’s Best Spas” in National Geographic’s Spa & Wellness Collection.

SEE THE MALDIVES IN A NEW LIGHT AT LUX* SOUTH ARI ATOLL

maldives-762×382

World-renowned luxury resort and hotel operator LUX* Resorts & Hotels is known for a different style of holidaying – a lighter, brighter way of celebrating life – and its newest resort LUX* South Ari Atoll opened last week in the Maldives.

The brand’s latest five-star resort has been entirely reimagined, with a chic beach-house style. Innovative and trend-setting, it features a contemporary atmosphere while protecting the cocooned tropical-island atmosphere. LUX* South Ari Atoll is not just about luxury and aesthetics: it’s a resort with a soul. Playful, fun, modern this is paradise for travellers looking for a distinctive experience in the Maldives.

Dotted at the water’s edge along two miles of pure white sand beach and perched on stilts above a crystal-clear lagoon, are 193 super-spacious pavilions and villas designed by P49 Deesign. The seductive flood-lit over-water villas promise freedom, privacy and intimacy. 46 Romantic Pool Villas each have private 7m suspended infinity pools, and three Temptation Pool Water Villas boast a 14m pool and this forms the resort’s adults-only sanctuary. These villas enjoy twin showers, private terraces incorporating a unique couples’ love nest, and a deck with steps down into the sea, perfect for enjoying the turquoise blue waters of the Indian Ocean.

The spectacular range of eight restaurants and five bars includes a sophisticated take on a bustling night market; guests can head to East Market where they can enjoy flavours from Vietnam, Thailand and Sichuan among others. Umami promises fine dining from the open sushi kitchen, teppanyaki and robata counters as well as the Maldives’ largest selection of sakés and Japanese whiskies. Allegria, Senses and MIXE satisfy international palates with Mediterranean to Maldivian specialities and the new Beach Rouge introduces fresh beach-club dining experience to the island. Visit www.luxresorts.com/en/hotel-maldives/luxsouthariatoll for more information.

The LUX* Me spa and its overwater treatment villas set the tone for a Zen-inspired reboot of its own. The facility incorporates a traditional Chinese teahouse, a dedicated zone for brand new skin and body care experiences and an extended lagoon-view relaxation area. For those in search of the ultimate personalised spa experience, try the once-in-a-lifetime 10 hands massage. A Zen wellness pavilion accommodate a wide range of alternative wellbeing activities including yoga, meditation, pilates, tai chi and qigong, all of which are overseen by an expert wellness concierge. LUX* Me is all about a tailored approach to your wellbeing, whether it be spa, fitness, yoga, meditation, nutrition or a unique combination tailored especially to your needs.

Graced by one of Maldives’ most spectacular lagoon of crystal-clear waters, LUX* South Ari Atoll offers the finest choice of water sports of any Maldives’ five-star resort. LUX* was the first to offer flyboarding and hoverboarding and once again introduced the Maldives’ first: jet-surfboarding. No wonder the resort is referenced as #ThePlacetoBeMaldives.

LUX* South Ari Atoll promises a lighter, brighter, more enlightening holiday experience. Stay tuned for events worth travelling around the world for as Beach Rouge, the East Market, and even a sandbank hosting music and culinary celebrations. Where else can guests dance to a DJ with their toes dipped in the warm ocean or taste the best of South-East Asia in a suspended over-the-water night market?

Paul Jones, CEO of LUX* Resorts & Hotels confides: “The focus around the creation of a new LUX* South Ari Atoll has been as much about the transformation of the property as it has been about the enhancement of the guests’ experiences. For this, our team has worked effortlessly on enriching the moments that matters, and we have created new and exciting Reasons To Go LUX*. I am convinced that places you remember are the ones that inspire you; those that have a soul and caring people. LUX* South Ari Atoll has this magical mix.”

LUX* South Ari Atoll will of course include all of LUX*’s popular features and Reasons To Go LUX* including a LUX* Me Spa, a dive centre with a property marine biologist, a Café LUX*, ICI ice-creams, a gym, a kids’ club, organic gardens, a Tree of Wishes and an outdoor Cinema Paradiso to name a few.

On top of that, the opening of this new resort was the perfect opportunity for the brand to present a series of more Reasons To Go LUX*. Stay at a conventional resort, and before long you know where everything is. That doesn’t happen at LUX*. Spontaneity and surprises are in our DNA with the new Reasons To Go LUX* making a debut at LUX* South Ari Atoll this month.

  • LUX* Photo Fanatics — LUX* means light, and so it is also in spirit, so it should come as little surprise that LUX* is a brand that loves the art of photography. Introducing Photo Fanatics, a unique image-capturing experience that will help guests seeking to create and capture the moments that matter, using a smartphone or a traditional camera or SLR.

  •  Junkart Studio & Gallery — Many regret the lack of time during their everyday lives to learn a new skill or revive a forgotten hobby.
LUX*  believes that a vacation can be the perfect time to explore something new or revisit old skills and passions. Guests at LUX* are invited  to have fun making one-off artworks and sustainable souvenirs from upcycled materials.

  • Wanderlust Library — Make up for that last-minute pre-holiday book buy at the airport or magazine selection limited by how much your hand luggage can take. LUX* understands the desire to try new things, especially on holiday. To encourage this LUX* has curated the ultimate collection of books and magazines, to be enjoyed in a cocooned air-conditioned place which will stimulate your travel senses and expand your horizons.

  • Master Chef — The joy of cooking and the fun of the whole family getting involved is unrivalled. Cook with a professional chef and take home some new tricks.

The remodelling of LUX* South Ari Atoll doesn’t just mean a contemporary, characterful new look; guests can also expect a remarkable and insightful cultural calendar. Entirely new for the Maldives, LUX* South Ari Atoll hosts short expert-led workshops throughout the year, with leading practitioners from diverse, creative and inspiring walks of life. It’s always a privilege to spend time with inspiring individuals who are happy to share their unique wisdom and skills.

The brand vision is to offer our guests different luxury hospitality experience; helping people celebrate life, by making each moment matter. In this context, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy themselves with a series of workshops which could reveal innate talents, hidden talents.

The workshops are as varied as they are numerous. There are painting lessons with Jeannine Platz, a motivation workshop with Ron Kaufman, food art with Samantha Lee and photography with world-renowned travel photographer Michel Freeman. For the ones looking for some healthy and fitness options, this has also been taken care of with masterclasses from fitness guru Anna Victoria, and also the opportunity to explore underwater with the freediving world record holder William Winram. For more information, visitwww.luxresorts.com/en/hotel-maldives/luxsouthariatoll

What makes LUX* South Ari Atoll so special is its spirit, team members, and entirely different approach to helping you have the best-ever holiday. LUX* promises a journey for the senses, where – in true LUX* style – you can expect the unexpected.

Finolhu

Preparing for the launch of Finolhu, the latest from The Small Maldives Island Co.

maxresdefault (1)

Having revolutionised the ‘typical Maldives resort’ concept with 2014’s game-changing launch of Amilla Fushi, The Small Maldives Island Co. looks set to confound expectations once again with the opening of sister resort Finolhu in mid-2016. To celebrate the soon-to-open property, the new Resort Manager, Rochelle Kilgariff, visited Sydney and invited media guests to a sumptuous lunch at Regatta Rose Bay on Friday 12 February.

Over lunch of sashimi cones and savoury cigars, Ms Kilgariff described what guests can expect at Finolhu. The new resort is set to bring a timeless sense of style to the pristine lagoons and rich waters of the Maldives’ Baa Atoll, taking the form of a retro-inspired island paradise for fun-loving jetsetters.

Located in the UNESCO World Biosphere that is the Baa Atoll (just 30 minutes by speedboat from sister resort, Amilla Fushi), Finolhu is an island experience for couples, fun-loving families and gathering of friends. There are seven villa types to choose from – over water or on the beach, one or two bedroom, with or without pool – all eclectically furnished with Marshall speakers and blue bottles of organic skin and body products from UK brand, Neal’s Yard Remedies.

Collaborating once again with Island Restaurateur, Luke Mangan, Finolhu will be home to laid-back yet elegant dining options: Salt Grill is all about contemporary Australian cuisine; the Fish & Crab Shack is a relaxed nod to seaside food stalls; Baa Bar and Dining offers the simplicity of bold flavours served under the stars and accompanied by an extensive wine library; and Kanusan showcases the innovative flavours of Asian cuisines.

Centred around a hub of pastel-coloured beach huts, Finolhu’s The Cove will be a stripped-back spa concept, offering a calm haven with eight chandelier-lit treatment ‘Divans’, complemented by a fitness centre, yoga pavilion and outdoor ‘jungle gym’. The island’s natural environment is the inspiration for fitness activities at The Cove, from capoeira and paddleboarding to ballet and kickboxing, while the facilities will also include a relaxation area overlooking the beach, steam/sauna, wellness areas, salon and retail pavilion.

Finolhu’s Marine Hub is home to a variety of water sports and the dive centre, as well as the Oceaneers Club for tots to teens. For a go-slow beach vibe, guests can while away the days at the Baa Baa Beach Club, lazing and grazing on finger food, beers or cocktails.

An exhilarating seaplane journey from Malé takes you to Kandolhu Island, an exclusive resort of just 30 villas, some with private pools. This tiny private island has a beautiful white sand beach and a pristine coral reef. With beach and over-water villas, four great restaurants, a spa and a wealth of non-motorised water sports, this could be your temporary Maldivian home.

Choose between beach villas or over-water villas, some with a Jacuzzi and others with a private plunge pool. All have daybeds, a sundeck and sun loungers to make the most of the outrageously beautiful sea views. Grab your complimentary snorkelling gear and discover Kandolhu Island’s colourful house reef encircling the island.

A diver’s paradise, Kandolhu Island provides day and night dives from on board a Maldivian dhoni. Swim among turtles, Napoleon wrasse, parrotfish, snappers and jacks through caverns and overhangs. Take sailing lessons, or enjoy hours of pampering in the spa. Go on a sunset cruise and return later for Mediterranean cuisine in the Olive Restaurant or fresh seafood at the Sea Grill, right on the beach.
