Preparing for the launch of Finolhu, the latest from The Small Maldives Island Co.

Having revolutionised the ‘typical Maldives resort’ concept with 2014’s game-changing launch of Amilla Fushi, The Small Maldives Island Co. looks set to confound expectations once again with the opening of sister resort Finolhu in mid-2016. To celebrate the soon-to-open property, the new Resort Manager, Rochelle Kilgariff, visited Sydney and invited media guests to a sumptuous lunch at Regatta Rose Bay on Friday 12 February. Over lunch of sashimi cones and savoury cigars, Ms Kilgariff described what guests can expect at Finolhu. The new resort is set to bring a timeless sense of style to the pristine lagoons and rich waters of the Maldives’ Baa Atoll, taking the form of a retro-inspired island paradise for fun-loving jetsetters. Maldives with its fine white sandy beaches has been awarded as the Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination in the 2015 World Travel Awards which was held at the Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare. Maldives is renowned for its white beaches all throughout the country. No beach is any shade darker than the colour we call “white”. Most of the beaches of these uniquely formed islands are fine sand beaches though you might come across coral pieces washed on the shore. This should come as no surprise as the Maldive islands are built on coral beds and have delicate eco-systems and a fragile environment.
