Soneva Launches ‘A Festival of Colour’ Campaign to celebrate rare experiences across its resorts

maxresdefault

Renowned French film director Bruno Aveillan has created a series of short films themed around each colour of the campaign

February 19, 2018: Soneva, the world-leading luxury resort operator, has launched its first ever year-long campaign known as a ‘Festival of Colour’ to celebrate the diverse array of guest activities and experiences on offer this year, ranging from visiting Michelin-starred chefs and astronomers, through to authors, champion free-divers, artists and more. Each month of the year is associated with a different colour and theme, which will be brought to life at Soneva’s resorts in the Maldives and Thailand through special on-site events and collaborations.

Underscoring the Festival of Colour is a series of short “colour” films created by the renowned French film director Bruno Aveillan. Bruno visited Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani in early 2017 to shoot the films, which were inspired by the different colours he found at the resorts. Soneva plans to release one colour film each month during the campaign on its website and on social media.

Fine dining experiences are a pivotal part of Soneva’s Festival of Colour, and the company has so-far confirmed 28 of the world’s top chefs (many of which have at least two Michelin stars and above or are included within The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list) for exclusive dinner events.

Mysterious “beach cusps” observed in Fuvahmulah

Mysterious “beach cusps” observed in Fuvahmulah

I was baffled and amazed to see the picture uploaded by Nasih Thaath in Fuvahmulah online that unfolds the mysterious beach formation in the northern beach -thoondu- of our island. People say everything about Fuvahmulah is unique and mysterious. That i s true. Thoondu is a phenomenal place.

It is the most breathtaking and mysterious beach in the Maldivian archipelago. Twenty years ago, the white sandy beach was so vast that it stretched hundreds of meters across  the northern tip of our island, creating natural phenomenon that puzzled and attracted thousands of people. The edge of the sand adjoining the beach was so slanted that we used the base of the coconut leaf (beedi) to glide down the sand. It was skiing. Hold on! Lets look at the mysterious beach formation in Thaath’s picture. Some pictures similar to these have gone viral on the internet in other parts of  the world.

englandAn image (pic in the left) featuring strange patterns – beach cusps – on a beach in Dorset, England went viral in September 2015, on the content-sharing site Reddit.

These formations are called BEACH CUSPS. This phenomena is not fully understood. Scientists have been carrying out researches for 50 years and they are able to conclude just two theories.

They ‘believe’ two causes for this formation. The ‘standing edge theory’ claims that the interaction between the normal waves approaching the shore and the edge waves gives rise to regularly spaced-points of different wave intensity. Meanwhile the self-organization theory explains that beach cusps are products of interactions among wave, currents, as well as sand over time that result feedback loop.

But these occurrences happen in shoreline made up of various grades of sediment in an arc pattern. The horns are made up of coarser materials and the embayment contains all the finer grain sediment. They can be found all over the world and are most noticeable on shorelines with coarser sediment such as pebble beaches. Thoondu is a place where you can observe one of the most mysterious sediments- called “thoondu veyli” or pebbles. These shining white pebbles resemble gems. However, they can occur with sediment of any size. They nearly always occur in a regular pattern with cusps of equal size and spacing appearing along stretches of the shoreline. These cusps are most often a few metres long. However, they may reach 60 m (200 ft) across.

Once cusps have been created they are a self-sustaining formation. This is because when an oncoming wave hits the horn of a beach cusp, it is split and forced into two directions. The crashing of the wave into the cusps slows its velocity, causing coarser sediment to fall out of suspension and be deposited on the horns. The waves then flow along the embayments (picking up finer sediment) and run into one another in the middle. After this collision these waves attempt to flow back out to sea where they are met by incoming waves. Therefore, once the cusp is established, coarser sediment is constantly being deposited on the horn and finer sediment is being eroded away from the embayments. This process causes the horns and embayments to at least maintain their size, if not grow larger.

According to researches most of these formations do not last long. It forms in a quick pace of time and vanishes quickly.

We have witnessed natural occurrences such as bissaaveli – formation of huge water pools in naturally engraved area of the sand- formation, and the “moving” of the sand across the northern end, and we have been gifted with the pebbles of gems in the beach.

Beach cusp is another phenomena the nature has bestowed upon us. This is the first time that we have witnessed this occurrence. But perhaps it has occurred in the past. Who knows! Nature’s tranquility and perfection have eluded us from these occurrences. Man is ignorant to judge nature. Its so mighty and complex. Natural phenomenon are greatest signs of god’s creation and existence.

The Maldives voted top location for honeymoon couples

Ethunuge kula gandu haadha fakkaley, I felt in in Love with the day and the scene in, Can you list the colors on this Image?

When it comes to the honeymoon, will you be shunning two weeks on the beach for somewhere off the beaten track? Travel brand Kuoni has revealed its latest report showing the Maldives scores as the top location for honeymoon couples, but also that adventure holidays are growing in popularity over stay-put beach breaks

Couples see the Maldives as the ultimate luxury island paradise, with the holiday destination scoring the top spot for honeymooners, Kuoni’s worldwide trends report shows.

With its unique collection of all-island resorts and over-water villas, the Maldives continues to set the pace in luxury travel and scores higher than any other destination on customer satisfaction.

The worldwide holiday company has seen holidays with an adventure, cultural or touring element as part of the itinerary grow at twice the pace of stay-put beach breaks over the past two years, and the report has also unveiled the top locations for honeymoons in 2016.

Same-sex honeymoons are also on the rise, according to Kuoni. Over 15,000 same-sex marriages have taken place since it was introduced in England and Wales in 2014, according to the Office for National Statistics. The increase has resulted in demand for luxury travel advice from companies able to guide couples on the legal and cultural positions in different destinations.

When it comes to creating big life moments, from seeing wildlife in its natural habitat to experiencing iconic sights such as the Great Wall of China, more than *60 per cent of British adults are prepared to invest more than the average holiday in making their wish list a reality.

Other key findings about honeymoons include:

Snorkelling with turtles in turquoise-blue waters remains one of the top wish list experiences for honeymoon couples this year.
Honeymooners are now spending an average of £5,902 in total on their trip, up from £5,743 last year, backing up a trend for more adventure, upgraded luxury and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
The most popular month to book a Kuoni honeymoon is January.
The average honeymoon duration is 13 days.
11.6 per cent of Kuoni honeymoon bookers put their honeymoon on a John Lewis gift list in 2015.
Indonesia has seen the biggest rise in the top 10 and Bali is a favourite as it’s a perfect destination to visit weather-wise during the wedding-boom months.
Vietnam has jumped five places in the past year to the number 11 spot, showing the popularity of adventure touring over a classic beach stay.

This tiny private island has a beautiful white sand beach and a pristine coral reef. With beach and over-water villas, four great restaurants, a spa and a wealth of non-motorised water sports, this could be your temporary Maldivian home.

Choose between beach villas or over-water villas, some with a Jacuzzi and others with a private plunge pool. All have daybeds, a sundeck and sun loungers to make the most of the outrageously beautiful sea views. Grab your complimentary snorkelling gear and discover Kandolhu Island’s colourful house reef encircling the island.

A diver’s paradise, Kandolhu Island provides day and night dives from on board a Maldivian dhoni. Swim among turtles, Napoleon wrasse, parrotfish, snappers and jacks through caverns and overhangs. Take sailing lessons, or enjoy hours of pampering in the spa. Go on a sunset cruise and return later for Mediterranean cuisine in the Olive Restaurant or fresh seafood at the Sea Grill, right on the beach.

Taiwan, Bali, and Thailand’s Phuket Island have also been favoured by Chinese tourists in the list, which was created after a poll by the conference’s organisation committee and after evaluation by an expert panel.

The poll began in June, drawing more than three million responses for more than 70 destinations. The poll was conducted via the committee’s website, and some other portals and microblog services.
