A team of Indian journalists and bloggers have arrived in Maldives on a familirization trip organized by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation. They are expected to visit local islands and resorts from 15th April 2019 till 20th April 2019 to experience off the beaten track activities available in Maldives.

The main purpose of this trip is to promote Maldives as a tourist destination via blog posts and articles. The team will explore the undiscovered side of Maldives, which is the local island life and Maldivian culture. Their trip will start at Guraidhoo Palm Inn, where they will experience the local way of life by sightseeing the island and experiencing the local cusines of Maldives. MMPRC will also give a destination presentation to the group to share information regarding the Maldivian tourism industry to further promote Maldives. The team will then travel to Adaaran Rannalhi and Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi where they will experience life at a resort and sunset excursion on a cruise.

The team comprise of writers from Pioneer Group, an English language daily newspaper and Outlook Traveller, India’s First and largest circulated monthly travel magazine. Bloggers in the team include Snigdha Bhowmick from “Salt and Sandals” which is a luxury travel, food & beverage blog, Archana Singh from “Travel See Write” travel blog, Pallavi Chaturvedi from “That Desi Girl” Blog, and Nivi Shrivastava, a freelance journalist with Deccan Chronical and Asian age. They will be posting dedicated social media posts with destination articles that feature their experience in Maldives.

This is the first of a series of FAM trips that are being planned by MMPRC for this year in order to promote Maldives. These trips are an integral part of MMPRC’s marketing strategy to relate the stories of Maldives to the world by inviting various media from across the globe to experience Maldives first hand.

Maldives participated at China’s No.1 B2B Fair COTTM 2019

Maldives is showcased colorfully at China’s number one B2B Fair, China Outbound Travel & Tourism Market 2018 (COTTM) in Beijing, China. Entering its 15th consecutive year, COTTM is widely recognized as the industry’s most important platform and remains the only business-to-business event that focuses solely on the growing outbound tourism market in China. While China is the main contributing market the Maldives tourism industry, the Maldives presence will be showcased at COTTM with 20 participants from 10 companies at a 102sqm stand from 15-17 April 2019.

During the three-day exhibition, the Maldivian Ambassador to China, Hon. Mohamed Faisal, will represent the Maldives delegation along with other government officials from the Maldives Embassy based in China and the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation and representatives from the Maldivian tourism industry. The delegation will meet with travel industry professionals and discuss potential future collaborations to further promote Maldives in China.

This year, various activities are held at the Maldives stand for the visitors to experience a bit of the Sunny side of life. These include calligraphy, where names of visitors attending the stand are written in Maldivian language (Dhivehi) unique to the Maldives. Maldivian traditional snacks will be displayed at the stand where visitors get to taste authentic Maldivian snacks, this is one of the most attractive aspects of the Maldives stand for the visitors. Visitors can also experience underwater beauty of Maldives through a virtual reality headset. Additionally visitors can pose for pictures near the photo booth placed at the stand, using frame board and post it on social media to win a surprise gift.

In 2018, the Maldives welcomed 283,116 visitors from China, which represented 19.1% of total visitor arrivals to the country during the year. China has been the biggest source market for the Maldives for the past 9 years and will continue to play an important role in the Maldives travel industry. Therefore COTTM is the perfect platform to display Maldives vacation products to a prime audience.

MMPRC has commenced a series of marketing activities in South Africa

Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has commenced a series of marketing activities in South Africa. The marketing activities include a roadshow under the theme of “Journey to the Sunny Side” in multiple cities targeting a wider audience to maximize the Maldives brand exposure, coinciding with the World Travel Market Africa 2019 (WTM Africa 2019) held on 10-12 April 2019.

The first roadshow of the series is being held in Johannesburg & Cape Town, South Africa, 8-9 April 2019 respectively. The roadshow will serve as a platform for Maldives tourism industry partners to showcase products and network with the travel trade industry and media of South Africa.

To maximize the outcome from the roadshow being held today, MMPRC has planned several activities such as social media campaign, Virtual Reality showcase of Maldives and tasting of local snacks, during the events. Moreover, a raffle draw will select five winners to spend holidays in Maldives, with sponsorship from Robinson club Maldives, Villa Hotels and Crown & Champa Resorts.

In 2018, the South African market has shown a 9.9 percent growth in arrivals. With the direct connection from Johannesburg to Gan International Airport, MMPRC and industry partners foresee a greater potential in the market. Thus, “Journey to the sunny side” and WTM in South Africa will enable the Maldives and its partners to tap the market in a significant way.

“Dive into the incredible waters of Maldives” at the 27th annual Marine Diving Fair in Tokyo, Japan

Maldives takes part in the 27th annual Marine Diving Fair in Tokyo, Japan from 5th to 7th April 2019. Maldives will be represented by Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) together with the Maldives Embassy in Japan along with the industry participants. The delegation will be headed by H. E. Mr. Ibrahim Uvais, Ambassador of Maldives to Japan.

During the three day event, various activities will be carried out at the Maldives booth to attract visitors. The activities include, local food tasting, bingo game at the stand, where the winner will be given a free holiday package to the Maldives sponsored by Liyela Retreat. Moreover, a presentation will be given at the fair to deliver information about the various products and the diving segment of Maldives. A Q&A quiz will be carried out at the stand, where the visitors who participate in the quiz will get a special gift. In addition to the activities, meetings will be held with industry professionals to discuss on further developing the strategies to tap the potential travelers.

Meeting with a leading travel agency in Japan at Marine Dive Fair 2019

Marine Diving Fair 2019 will be a platform to reach a large number of scuba divers and marine enthusiasts. Furthermore, it is expected, that participation will benefit in strengthening the market presence of Maldives in Japan and South East Asia region.

The Japanese market is the 9th source market to Maldives according to the most recent arrival figures by the Ministry if Tourism. By the end of February 2019, 3,987 Japanese arrivals were recorded, which is a growth of 6.5 percent compared to the previous year. In 2018 a total of 42,304 arrivals were recorded, which is a growth of 2.8 percent. Its been noted that the dive segment of Maldives attracts the most visitors from Japan. Thereby, Marine Diving fair opens a great platform to reach the travelers focusing in the dive segment.

Noku Maldives welcomes Executive Chef Mohammed Tarique Aziz

Noku Maldives welcomes Executive Chef Mohammed Tarique Aziz. Born and raised in West Bengal, India, he was inspired by his father’s willingness to cook for the family after his mother’s vision started to fail. During that time, his interest and desire for improvement led him to enrol into a Hotel Management college program in India.

Upon graduation, Chef Tarique embarked on his first culinary journey at Le Meridien Hotel, Bangalore in 2006. He started off as a kitchen executive at the age of 21 and was promoted to Chef De Partie after 2 years of hard work. During this time, he had the opportunity to work alongside 2 decorated Michelin Star chefs; Denial Chamnon who was renowned for French cuisine and Chef Botrini for Italian Cuisine.

He further challenged himself with his first overseas stint at the Cove Rotana Resort and Spa Res Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. As part of the pre-opening hotel team, he gained a lot of experience and honed his culinary and plating skills further. Chef Tarique continues to undertake more roles in different hotels and resorts and was promoted to the ranks of Sous Chef De Cuisine, Executive Sous Chef & Executive Chef De Cuisine. During his tenure in the Middle East, Chef Tarique became an honorary member of various culinary associations like SR.Member of Saudi Arabian Chefs Table Circle & Member of Workchefs WACS (World Association of Chef Societies).

He also received “The Best restaurant in Doha” Award at the BBC Good Food – Middle East Awards in 2014. Among his esteemed guests served are members of the royal family of Saudi Arabia and Doha.

With 13 years of exposure from India to Doha, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Gambia and now Maldives – just like a seasoned traveller. But his cuisine of speciality of Modern, Classic French cuisine remains close to his heart.

The first session of Marketing Seminars for guesthouses was held today in AA Rasdhoo. These seminars are being conducted by Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation (MMPRC) in association with Guesthouse Association of Maldives and Maldives Getaways, which is in accordance to the current government’s 100-day pledge to further develop the local tourism industry of the Maldives.

32 participants registered to participate in the first session held in AA Rasdhoo and 12 participants attended. During the session the participants were familiarized on tourism industry market trends and statistics. They were also given information on social media marketing and different marketing strategies that they can use to promote their guest houses.

The next seminar will be held tomorrow on 20 March 2019 in AA. Ukulhas with 37 registered participants. Similar marketing seminars will be conducted from 23rd March to 23rd May in Aa. Dhigurah, V.Thinadhoo, B.Dharavandhoo, Hulhumale, Hdh.Hanimaadhoo, Addu City, Laamu Atoll, Gdh.Thinadhoo and K.Maafushi.
