Maldives
Marketing & PR Corporation (MMPRC) will be taking part in ITB Berlin which
will be held from 6 – 10 March 2019 in Berlin, Germany. This year’s industry
participants consists of 273 participants from 104 companies.

In
order to share important information regarding this year’s exhibition, MMPRC
hosted a pre-meeting at the conference Room at TFG Building, for all participants
attending the fair.

The
pre-meeting is held every year before ITB, in order to give detailed
information about the exhibition, and other opportunities that are available
throughout the 5 days for industry partners to utilize and gain further
exposure and benefits for their respective business. Through this meeting,
industry partners can also share any concerns or ideas that they may have to
improve the participation at ITB. MMPRC also takes this opportunity to
introduce and meet with the delegation before the exhibition.

ITB
Berlin is the largest travel trade exhibition in the world showcasing over
10,000 exhibitors, and visited by over 160,000 visitors which includes travel
trade and public. ITB Berlin covers all aspects in the travel and tourism
sector including destinations, tour operators, airlines, hotels, bloggers and
several other stakeholders from the industry.

Germany
has been a major market in terms of arrivals to Maldives, with 117,532 German
tourists recorded to have visited Maldives in 2018. This is an increase of 4.8%
when compared to the previous year. German market contributes to 7.9% of the
total market share, making it one of the top European markets to Maldives.
Through participation in ITB Berlin, it is expected that the numbers would
continue to grow over the coming years,

Baros ranked among the top luxury hotels in the world

Baros Maldives has been named among the top Luxury Hotels in the World, by the world’s largest travel site, TripAdvisor in their annual Travelers’ Choice Awards. Baros was also named as the top Luxury hotel in Asia, and in the Maldives.

Travelers’ Choice awards are the highest honour that TripAdvisor website can give and the award winners are determined by the reviews and opinions from millions of travellers who visit the website to share their experiences and rate businesses.

Baros won eight awards in different categories in Travelers’ Choice Awards 2019.

The General Manager, Mr. Jay commented that this is certainly a remarkable achievement for Baros, noting that these awards represent what the team at Baros stand for, which is to provide transformative and highly personal service, embracing guests with a deep level of genuine care, always placing the individual experience ahead of the bottom line. Maldives…the Sunny Side of Life exhibits at largest Swiss Holiday & Travel Fair

Maldives Marketing and Public
Relations Corporation (MMPRC) along with 7 tourism industry partners are
currently exhibiting Maldives as a destination at the largest Swiss Holiday
Fair held in Zurich from 31st January to 3rd February 2019. The four-day fair
attracts a large number of visitors from Switzerland, in which over 63,000
people have had attended the fair in 2018 itself. FESPO is a fair that presents
numerous opportunities for the tourism industry to network with journalists,
travel bloggers and other industry professionals.

The stand of Maldives is located in
Hall 6 with other Asian Countries. During FESPO, visitors will have the
opportunity to taste authentic Maldivian snacks such as Theluli bambukeyo,
Bondi and Haalu folhi. Visitors will also have the opportunity to win goodie
bags after posting a picture at the Maldives stand.

According
to the latest visitor survey of Maldives, majority of the tourists from
Switzerland visit Maldives for snorkeling, and rest & relaxation.
Switzerland is one of traditional markets to the Maldives. It is also among the
leading top ten markets to the Maldives, where 32,984 tourists from Switzerland
had visited Maldives in 2018 according to statistic recorded by the Ministry of
Tourism. Destination representation of the Maldives in FESPO is expected to
improve the Swiss market growth and market share.

Maldives returns to promote the destination at the East Mediterranean International Travel and Tourism Exhibition 2019 (EMITT)

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) together
with 12 representatives from
08 companies from the Tourism Industry of Maldives are taking part in the East Mediterranean
International Travel and Tourism Exhibition 2019 (EMITT) held in
Istanbul, Turkey from 31 January to 3 February 2019.

EMITT is one of the biggest travel trade shows in the East
Mediterranean region and one of the top five tourism exhibitions worldwide,
with tourism industry representatives from all over the world participating and
showcasing their own products. EMITT attracts over 54,000 industry
professionals and tourists annually, and enables exhibitors to meet
professional national and international visitors, a business platform that
provides new business and coporation opportunities to sector. Last year, the
fair recorded 54,364 visitors and 1,065 exhibitors. In addition, 85 companies exhibited
in the fair last year.

Maldives…the Sunnyside
of Life is showcased at a 63sqm stand. The brand new design
of Maldives displays various aspects of the destination through colourful
images. Actvities at the stand includes gourmet food tasting of local flavours of Maldivian snacks such as
Kulhi roshi and Haalu folhi.

Other highlights of activities also include, experience of
Maldives through virtual reality, with colourful underwater flora and fauna,
swim with whale sharks or the serene sunny beaches of the Maldives. In
addition, music performances by the the 2nd runner up of season 2
Maldivian Idol will will make the stand more lively.

To attract more visitors to the
stand, a raffle draw will be taken at the last day of the fair and the winner
will be given a free holiday package sponsored by Furaveri Island Resort & Spa.

Turkish market has shown an increase in the overall outbound
travel and a slow but steady growth in arrivals to Maldives since the
establishment of Turkish airlines in November 2012. By the end of  2018, a total of, 10.129 tourist has arrived
Maldives. Maldives participation at EMITT 2019
gives the opportunity to provide up to date information on the destination to
potential visitors and operators to help promote the destination in the Turkish
market. EMITT has been a successful platform to showcase the Maldives
tourism in the past. Participation at this fair will help achieve the targets
that have been set for the market.

A seminar on marketing guesthouses through social media was held today at MMPRC. The purpose of the seminar was to educate the guesthouses on utilizing social media to effectively market guesthouses. Hands-on approaches to marketing guesthouses using social media were discussed which would aid guesthouses to make more informed decisions to formulate social media marketing campaigns.

Guesthouses from different islands took part in this seminar conducted by Mr. Ismail Shaheer. Mr. Ismail Shaheer is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Tourism, University of Otago (New Zealand). He has worked in MMPRC (formerly known as MTPB) for more than 12 years in destination promotion.

MMPRC plans to work closely with guesthouses in future.

Maldives set to showcase the destination at FITUR 2019

Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) together with industry partners are set to showcase the destination at FITUR the International Tourism Trade Fair Held in Madrid, Spain. Maldives…the sunny side of life will be represented by 21 companies with 36 representatives from the destination from 23rd to 27th of January 2019.

FITUR is one of the biggest global platforms for leading travel trade professionals for inbound and outbound markets and this is the 39th year which FITUR is being held in a row. The first three days of the fair is solely for trade visitor and the last two days are for both trade visitors and public. Although FITUR is mainly targeted for the Spanish market the platform will be a great opportunity for Maldives to connect with tourism professionals from all over the world.

Maldives will be located at the Asia and the Pacific hall in stand 6D12. The uniqueness of the destination will be portrayed in a 70 sqm stand space. During FITUR, visitors will be able to taste the local food such as Theluli bambukeyo, bondi etc. Visitors will also have the opportunity to win goodie bags after posting a picture at the Maldives stand. Meetings will be held with industry professionals during FITUR this year to seek possible joint campaigns and enhance the marketing efforts with the professionals of the industry.

Arrivals to Maldives from the Spanish Market has grown to 23% by the end of 2018 is a total of 31,780 arrivals. Spanish market shares 2.1 percent of the market share to Maldives. A total of 1,484,274 tourists visited Maldives by the end of 2018. This is a growth of 6.8% compared to the previous year.

Maldives…the sunny side of life exhibits at the One World Travel Market (OTM), Mumbai

Maldives takes part in One World Travel Market (OTM) held in Mumbai, India from 23 – 25th January 2019. While OTM is the gateway to India’s largest travel markets and one of the leading travel trade shows of India, it is held at the Bombay Convention Centre in Mumbai. A total of 20 participants from 15 different companies from the Maldivian tourism industry have travelled to Mumbai for the exhibition. During these 3 days, the Maldives delegation is led by the newly appointed Managing Director of Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation, Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed.

Held annually, OTM is among the largest platforms where international travel trade buyers and professionals meet in India. Mumbai is also India’s largest travel source market. This year, OTM will host 1000 exhibitors from 50 different countries to showcase their products. The Cine Locale section at OTM will hold interactive sessions with premier film and TV producers attended by more than 30 top producers like Yashraj Films, Dharma Productions and Viacom. OTM expects over 15000 trade visitors and more than 800 buyers from across all industry sectors.

Officials will be meeting with industry professionals during the fair to explore means to further develop and strengthen the presence of the Maldives in the Indian Market. In addition to business meetings conducted during the fair, the Maldives delegation will directly engage with major tour operators and top travel trade media, by presenting up-to-date information on the destination. This is a new approach that is being undertaken in OTM this year.

The Maldives is featured in a 60 square meter stand designed to portray an attractive contemporary style showing images of the beauty and uniqueness of the destination. Other activities available at the stand include a photo booth, where visitors are invited to take pictures alongside stunning images from the Maldives along with opportunities to experience the culinary delights of the Maldives. Visitors also stand a chance to win a free holiday to the Maldives by taking part in competition quizzes held twice a day.

The Indian travel market is the second fastest growing outbound travel market in the world and is expected to hit 50 million outbound travelers by 2020. The outbound travel spent by Indians is forecast to grow to US$ 45 Billion by the year 2022. By the end of year 2018, there was a total of 90,474 tourist arrivals from India, comprising of 6.1% of the total market share. India is currently ranked the top 5th market in terms of tourist arrival figures to the Maldives

Maldives takes part in the 50th BOOT Far in Messe Düsseldorf, Germany. The Fair is one of the largest watersports trade fairs in the world. The fair this year is focused on the motto “360° watersports experience”. Over 1900 exhibitors from 68 countries will be showcasing their products in 14 categories in the exhibition. 250,000 visitors from 90 nations are expected to visit the fair this year. 10 Participants from 5 different companies from the Maldivian tourism industry have travelled to Dusseldorf for the exhibition. This year’s fair will introduce several interactive activities for visitors including dive experiences, surfing, water sports and electronic sports.

With 99% water and the unique underwater beauty, Maldives has traditionally been a dive destination and continues to attract divers every year. Based on the preliminary findings of the Maldives Visitor Survey conducted in September 2016,16 percent of the tourists were motivated to visit Maldives because of its underwater beauty. As this is an important aspect of the destination, promoting our underwater beauty is essential and BOOT fair is an ideal platform to reach this segment.

Germany remains the second largest source market for the Maldivian Tourism industry. Boot will help us reach to this niche segment of the German market. By November 2018 a total of 106,660 German tourists visited the Maldives. It is a 3.5% growth with 8% market share.
