Watch Mariah Carey Help Her Backup Dancer Get Engaged

Mariah Carey makes fantasies come true, and this was certainly the case for one of her backup dancers last weekend. During a performance of her Las Vegas residency “The Butterfly Returns” at Caesars Palace on Saturday, July 14, Carey took a break from scheduled programming to give her dancer, Manwe, the surprise of a lifetime.

Wearing a white gown herself, Carey called Manwe up to take center stage and introduced him to the audience. She asked him if there were any additional guests, and Manwe called up his boyfriend Sumeet.

“I’ve heard a lot about you,” Carey said to Sumeet. The “We Belong Together” singer played it cool even though she and Sumeet were already acquainted since he reached out about the surprise proposal. He had some fun with the moment and responded, “I’ve heard a lot about you, too.”

Carey left Sumeet to get on with the show and wished them luck as she fled the stage. “Manwe we’ve been planning this for a long time and you didn’t know about it so hopefully you are surprised in a very big way,” she said.

Sumeet picked up where she left off saying, “Manwe, it’s been a really crazy year.” His speech continued, but cheering from the crowd drowned out the sound in the video. The next thing you hear is Sumeet saying, “would you do me the honor,” as he drops to one knee. Manwee nods yes the two share a long hug and kiss.

“He said yes!!!” Carey wrote on Instagram sharing the video with her fans. “Congratulations Manwe and Sumeet!!”

Sumeet and Manwe also took to social media and used Instagram to thank the Grammy award winner for the opportunity. “Thank you @mariahcarey for letting me steal the show for a minute to profess my love to @according2manwe #engaged,” Sumeet wrote.

Sharing the video again Manwe said, “The video that went viral. Thank you to my boss @mariahcarey thank you to @bryantanaka and everyone who was in on this. And above all thank you to my future husband @sumeetnpotatoes love you with all my heart and can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon Reveal New Wedding Plans (and Baby Plans!)

no thumb

The sour love story between Bachelor in Paradise stars Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon finally turned sweet after the couple got engaged in last month, and they are moving full speed ahead with wedding planning.

In a recent Good Morning America interview, the reality stars revealed some of their latest wedding plans. Iaconetti said they are “liking the sound of August 2019” for the wedding, and leaning toward tying the knot in Haibon’s home state of Rhode Island. She also mentioned that she is looking forward to trying on wedding dresses for the first time soon.

The couple brought up (once again) the possibility of having their nuptials televised so all of Bachelor Nation can be a part of it. Haibon told GMA, “The reason I met the love of my life is because of ‘Bachelor.’ And so I’m always indebted to them for that.”

This groom-to-be has a lot to be thankful for given he and Iaconetti’s tumultuous love story. The two first met on Bachelor in Paradise in 2015 with many of their encounters ending in tears—Iaconetti was unabashedly into Haibon, who, up until recently, only saw Iaconetti as a friend. Iaconetti finally met someone new during Bachelor Winter Games.

“I still thought, ‘This guy needs to figure out whether this is out of jealousy.’ And I also deserve to date somebody else after all these years, and all of these tears I shed over him,” Iaconetti said. “I was like, ‘This other person I’m dating has been into me, and wanting to like, commit to this from the get go.'”

Although she welcomed the change of pace, things ultimately didn’t work out and Iaconetti gave Haibon one last chance. The timing was clearly right this time since their love story ended with a romantic beach proposal in Mexico during filming for the upcoming season of Bachelor in Paradise.

“I think one of the biggest things that I had to put aside in my pursuit of Ashley was all the shame and guilt I think that really consumed my life for the past couple of years,” Haibon said. “It was very difficult to tell whether I was doing the right thing and whether I was making the right decisions. We had really a lot of adult conversations, tough conversations about what we meant to each other, who we are in each other’s lives.”

While it took Haibon a little longer to realize his now fiancé was his happily ever after, Iaconetti stands by knowing he was the one from the very beginning. “I knew it guys!” she said. “See I knew there was something more.”

Now that they are on the same page, this couple isn’t wasting any time. Beyond wedding planning, they are family planning. The two revealed they want either two or three children.

“We know the name of one of them … but I’m not putting it out there,” Iaconetti said. “It’s a boy name but if we’re going onto our third kid and it’s a third straight girl, we’re definitely using it.”

Haibon said, “It’s a name very important to her that I really like too.”

Until that happens, Iaconetti and Haibon are excited just to share their life together. “I feel incredibly lucky and grateful that everything’s worked out, because I’m engaged and couldn’t be happier to the love of my life, to the most amazing human being on this world,” Haibon said. “And so I just feel like a very, very lucky man.”

“I’m so lucky,” Iaconetti added. “Seriously, every single day I’m like, ‘I don’t know how I’m this lucky. I am so blessed.'”

Mother of Waffle House Shooting Survivor Buys a Wedding Dress for the Waitress Who Saved Her Son’s Life

If you needed a Friday pick-me-up, here’s proof that no good deed goes unnoticed. Months after the tragic Waffle House shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, a mother is stepping up to thank one of the waitresses who saved her son’s life—with a wedding dress.

Michael Garth Sr., a shooting survivor, recalled on Facebook being asked by his waitress that day that he and his friend move away from the bar where she was washing dishes. The waitress simply didn’t want to splash them with the water, but little did they know, their new seats (which were out of harm’s way from the shooter) saved their lives.

Garth’s mother Vickie Davis found the waitress—who happened to be getting married—and bought her a wedding dress as a thank you for saving her son.

“So many things happened that [led] to my life being spared at the Waffle House that night,” Garth wrote on Facebook. “This is the [waitress] that asked Tre Swisha Sneed and I not to sit at the bar because she was washing dishes and didn’t want the water to splash on us. That led to us sitting where we sat and possibly saved our lives. My mother Vickie Davis tracked her down, found out she was getting married and got her this wedding dress.”

Sneed recalled more of the tragic day in the comments, revealing that the waitress was harmed during the shooting, writing that she was “grazed on the face but no blood.”

Good karma always comes back around.

A Florida Couple Asked For Goats Instead Of Wedding Gifts For the Best Reason

no thumb

There are some seriously unique wedding gift registry ideas out there, but this couple’s ask comes in first place. Instead of a traditional registry Katherine and Edwin Dean asked their guests for money to purchase 1,000 goats for charity.

The Naples, Florida couple told local Fox affiliate WFTX that through their volunteer work in Malawi, Africa and working with Villages in Partnership, a charity organization, they became passionate about improving the lives of others. So it makes sense that they saw their wedding as another opportunity to give back.

“Katherine and I are both sort of very focused on helping people, making the world a better place,” Edwin said. “It was sort of the least that we could do.”

The Deans, who got married on June 16, were being modest when they said it’s the least they could do. The charity told WTFX how much these goats can really improve someone’s life. “One approach we take to combat lack of food and income is to provide families with goats as a source of income,” a Villages in Partnership spokesperson said. “One goat can help a farmer produce a fruitful harvest by using its byproducts as fertilizer. We also encourage families to breed their goats and sell offspring to local markets as an additional source of income.”

Thankfully, Katherine and Edwin’s guests saw the benefit in the goats as well and had no problem donating. “Some people bought one, two, four, 10,” Edwin said. “We did have one group that gave 100 goats.”

Each goat costs $50—which is cheaper than the average cost of a wedding gift—and Katherine, who even carried a baby goat down the aisle, thinks her guests felt good about being able to make a charitable donation over a material purchase. “I think people were very moved that instead of wedding presents we were asking for donations,” she said.

The Deans have raised enough money for 670 goats so far. You can help them reach their goal of 1,000 goats by donating here.

This Sweet Grandpa Accidentally Records His Reaction Instead of A Proposal

no thumb

Pro tip: When you ask someone to record your marriage proposal, give them explicit directions on how you want the moment shot. Make sure they know when you want them to start recording, what angle you want them to stand at, and most importantly, ask them to actually get you in the video. This sweet grandpa didn’t quite get the memo when he recorded a couple’s proposal—with the camera facing toward him the whole time.

John Hart met the soon-to-be engaged California couple (whose names weren’t shared) while riding the Sandia Peak Tramway near Albuquerque, New Mexico, with his grandson Jaime Hart and Jamie’s friend Jayce Flauding.

Hart senior told local news station KOB4 that when the soon-to-be engaged man introduced his girlfriend, Hart said “‘Wow hey, this would be a great chance for you to propose to your girlfriend and put a big smile on her face.’ And unbeknownst to me, that was the plan.”

The now newly engaged couple actually enlisted Flauding to record the proposal, but he ended up handing the phone off to Hart, a former Navy photographer.

Unfortunately, Hart didn’t realize that he had the camera turned toward his own face instead of at the couple. While the video has no footage of the proposal, it does include Hart’s sweet reaction.

“Oh, that’s so cool,” he says in the video after letting out an infectious “Aww.” Throughout the video you can hear the rest of the crowd cheering and congratulating the couple.

The beautiful moment quickly turned comedic when everyone realized Hart had actually been recording himself. “You Turkey!” he shouted in the video. Oh, Grandpa.

“I thought I could handle this,” Hart told KOB4. “Well, unbeknownst to me, I’m taping myself.”

Luckily, another onlooker captured a recording that includes the proposal, but we’d have to imagine Hart’s video takes the cake.

A Mississippi Couple Comes to the Rescue of a Stranger's Rained-Out Beach Wedding

A couple who planned to get married on June 30 on a beach in Pascagoula, Mississippi, was instead met with a wedding-day nightmare, courtesy of Mother Nature. With torrential downpours and lightening just before their ceremony and no back-up plan in place, pre-wedding panic set in—until a friendly neighbor swooped in to save the [wedding] day.

“I was in the car with my mom and dad about to have a panic attack and break down crying, thinking, ‘Oh, my God. What are we going to do?’” bride Dulce Gonzalez told Yahoo Lifestyle of the moment she realized that her outdoor wedding to fiancé Ariel Gonzalez was about to be rained out.

Cynthia and Shannon Strunk, strangers who had been watching from the windows of their nearby home, soon came to that same realization—and jumped into action. “We were watching them set up what the wedding was going to look like, but we were also watching what was coming from the north,” Shannon told WLOX, a local ABC affiliate, of the nearing storm.

The Strunks came to the rescue as Cynthia called out to wedding party, offering up their home as the couple’s new ceremony venue. “She came up to the window and said, ‘Y’all are more than welcome to come to our house. I’ll have everything ready in 10 minutes,'” Dulce remembers.

A small room was immediately turned into a makeshift bridal suite, and the Strunks had set up their large living room with chairs for their nearly 50 guests and even gifted the newlyweds a bottle of champagne and two glasses.

“It honestly looked like we had planned it there,” Dulce said, remembering how she thought, “God definitely wanted us to get married. Thank you for sending us these two little angels to save our big day and make it even more special.”

This level of hospitality is rare under any circumstance, but for Dulce—who is originally from the Dominican Republic, while her now-husband is from Puerto Rico—the Strunks’ generosity was especially notable. “Usually here in Mississippi, I’m not going to say everybody, but there is a lot of racism—white people racist against the Hispanics or black people,” explained Dulce. “Not all of them. I have come across a lot of them who are nice and open-minded, but there are many who aren’t. So I didn’t expect it at all.”

Cynthia told WLOX, “We didn’t think we were doing anything grand. We were just helping some people out on the beach that needed help.”

As planned, the couple took their reception to Woody’s—the restaurant where they had gotten engaged—but returned to the Strunks’ home two days later with flowers and cake to thank them. “[Cynthia] was like, ‘Y’all should come over for dinner,’” Dulce said, adding that they’ve exchanged phone numbers to keep in touch. “We will never ever forget that day. That was an extreme blessing and made our big day even more special.”

Dancing With The Stars Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd Officially Married at City Hall Before their Fairytale Wedding

It turns out Dancing With The Stars pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd couldn’t wait to start their love story! Ahead of their big fairytale wedding, the two actually tied the knot in a city hall ceremony.

To celebrate their one-year anniversary Chmerkovskiy posted videos from their intimate ceremony. “Before we did it in front of 300,” he wrote in the caption with bride and groom emojis. “This was one of the most exciting days of my life! Everything felt very festive, I couldn’t take my eyes off my future wife the whole ride to the City Hall and it was is if New York City herself was marrying us. I can’t believe it’s been a year. I still can’t believe you chose me. I can’t believe I get to live this dream with you by my side for the rest of my life and I promise to earn every second of your love. I love you @petamurgatroyd ❤️ Happy anniversary baby.”

From the video, it looks like the dancers were joined by just a few people and went for a super casual vibe. The bride wore a chic one-sleeve blue shirt, wide leg pants and nude heels, while the groom rocked a black shirt, white jeans and sneakers. Murgatroyd posted a photo from their city hall ceremony as well, showcasing her simple rose bouquet and a kiss on the cheek from her new hubby.

“Today I married the man I fell in love with so many years ago,” she wrote. “I knew he was the one. There was something so electric between us that people will still tell me about to this day. I love you @maksimc, this has been an incredible, outrageous year for us! I pray we are this happy for the rest of our lives. You’re everything I knew you were. ❤️🎉😍 #HappyAnniversary #ToUs”

The first ceremony was incredibly low-key compared to the couple’s formal wedding at Oheka Castle in Long Island, New York. They wed in a beautiful outdoor venue surrounded by 300 of their friends and family members. The bride wore an ivory ball gown and the groom wore a white tuxedo jacket. Later that night, the party moved inside to a flower-filled ballroom where there was naturally a night of dancing. The wedding weekend wrapped up with a post-wedding pool party at Brooklyn’s McCarren Hotel.

Since both of their ceremonies, the DWTS duo seems to be living in marital bliss with their 16-month-old son Shai Aleksander. “Max is so cute,” Murgatroyd told Us Weekly back in march. “He just comes home with flowers randomly. He’ll have them in his teeth and he walks up. I’ve got a baby in one arm. I’ve got a bottle in this arm. I’m like, ‘I look dreadful.’ He’s so awesome at making me feel like I look like a hundred bucks every day.”

Here’s to many more anniversaries for the happy couple.

Jennifer Lopez Sparks A-Rod Engagement Rumors With a Ring on That Finger

no thumb

For months now, fan have been speculating that an engagement between Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez is on the horizon. Now, they’re thinking that the day has finally arrived, due to the suspicious-looking ring J.Lo is wearing in her latest Instagram.

A-Rod and his triple-threat girlfriend spent the Fourth of July on the beach with their families. Both took to Instagram to share snaps of the sunny day, but one photo in particular is capturing the world’s attention. J.Lo posted a pic of herself and her honey cuddled up in the sand, with Lopez wearing a ring on that all important finger. Hmm… Could that be an engagement ring, perhaps?

“It’s the lil quiet moments that matter the most…💕,” the singer captioned the summery snapshot.

People went crazy in the comments, wishing their favorite celeb couple well and sharing their hopes of the new jewelry being an engagement ring. “So she has big ol ring on is she engaged??,” one commenter wrote. “Such a beautiful couple I really hope it’s the engagement ring. They belong together and wish them many years of happiness!!!,” another chimed in.

While The “El Anillo” singer chose not to respond to any comments with a confirmation or denial, Entertainment Tonight points out the ring is a simple piece of gold jewelry—hardly the sizable sparkler we’d expect Rodriguez to propose with.

Whether their Fourth of July included a proposal or not, their beach trip still looked pretty memorable. The former baseball player posted a video to his account of Lopez and the rest of the fam riding around Bridgehampton, New York, and singing along to The Notorious B.I.G. and Cardi B.

The trip also included a family bike ride according to ET, and some festive sparklers, which Lopez posted to her feed.

Although we hope both Rodriguez and Lopez keep sharing snapshots on social media, it may be a while before they share any engagement news. The mom of two, who has three marriages under her belt, said she is in no rush to tie the knot.

“We have to take our time,” she said during a Good Morning America interview last month. “I’ve made plenty of mistakes in my past, and it’s about—we’re mature now. We’re grown-ups and we’re gonna take our time and we’re gonna do things at our own pace.” She added, “Our life right now is incredibly wonderful. Between our kids and our work, we’re truly blessed. We don’t need anything more right now.”

This Couple Paused Their Wedding Ceremony to Watch a World Cup Game

Most couples wouldn’t let anything distract them or their guests from their wedding day. Think about it: You’ve spent months trying to plan the perfect day—and dealt with all the hiccups along the way—so it’s no wonder you’d want the day to be all about you! But this Russian couple had no problem directing all their guests’ attention somewhere else right in the middle of the ceremony.

Yekaterina and Dmitry Vasilyev got married last Sunday in Pushkin, Russia, during the Spain v. Russia World Cup game. According to The New York Post, the celebration was put on hold so they could watch their home country defeat Spain in the match. In a totally unexpected upset, Russia won during a penalty shootout, which the couple and their wedding guests watched from a cell phone.

Sporting events don’t typically overshadow weddings, but it sounds like this was a once-in-a-lifetime occasion. The game ended in a 1-1 tie and went into overtime during the newlywed’s reception.

These soccer fans had no problem turning their wedding reception into a victory party when Russia’s goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev secured a 4–3 shootout win to move them in to the last eight.

An amateur player himself, the groom called it “the best gift ever.”
